Things have been slowly grinding back into their old usual routine. Really, I find it dreadful to drag myself all the way to camp every morning, despite being conferred the privilege of staying out. Though sleeping on your bed at home sounds really good, it’s only a brief respite from your grinding daily work.

Guess that my designation now is more of a project kinda guy, handling all the miscellanous stuff that gets sent our way. Doing filming right now ( which is something I really wanted to learn back in my ‘creative’ and ‘hobby-ful’ days ), which is quite interesting in a sense since I’m considered one of the “experts” ( a very dubious but oft-used term here in the Army ) where I am.

I shouldn’t  focus too much on the really mundane, thus I shall teach upon my latest hobby, of which I take immense pride in. I present to you……. READING ! I love reading nowadays. I’ve been diving into Asimov’s Anthology nearly every night now, and I try to creep in a short story or two when I’m travelling to and fro my camp. It’s very entertaining, often narrated in that dark, cyber-punk thing that really attracts me in fiction. Some stories are really good, such as Robot Dreams and The Happy Man by Jonathan Lethem ( which was published in Asimov’s Science Fiction magazine back in its heyday of the 60s to 70s ). Really enjoyable reads and I strongly urge fellow bookworms to grab a copy of Asimov’s collected works from your nearest fine repository of books ( aka the hallowed LIBRARY ).

Alas, it’s time to consume my dinner and eat my horrible medicine. Damn the horrible medicine. At least, it’s the last week already.

Major things which did change:

1. Band – Valvetrain was formed. More on this at www.myspace.com/valvetrainsg
2. University - I got into NUS FASS. I’m happy with it but I’m very sure that I won’t stop trying in the years to come.
3. Army – I enlisted on Jan 7th this year, a day which I will never forget. The moment I handed over my Pink IC in exchange for the dull green of the Army’s 11B, I knew I was in the mess that is the SAF. No one likes to serve but they all do it; so do I. If not for the country but for the buddy beside me.
4. Others – I would like to say more has changed, but really, nothing significant did happen besides the above 3 items. Guess I live a boring life?

Recently, I have been mulling over the apparent lack of purpose in my life. Underneath all of these things which I do daily, what can I say that is truly significant and really worth doing? I began to desperately search for more meaning in life, and after going to church one fateful Sunday morning, I felt worthwhile once again. I felt that there was Someone up there who is watching over me. That gave me some consolation.

Speaking of more tangible, material things, I decided to pick up reading once again ( seeing as how free I am usually during the weekdays ), as a means to enrich and constantly update myself. I did not want to fall into the intellectual rot that many Army seniors told me was inevitable, especially in my seriously dull vocation.  I also decided to clean up my table and the surrouding areas, so as to have a clutter-free table in which I can seriously  think and read on. I’m very pleased to have done that even on the day I took a MC. Score 1 for efficiency.

Tommorrow I will know of my schedule ahead, but honestly, I’ve thought it through and felt that the incumbent one wasn’t as good as I thought it was ( 8-5, but really it was very tiring ). The new one might give me more surprises and changes. As they say, change is the only constant. I shall be keeping this blog updated.

Studying has been tough. Completed 3 1/2 hours as of now. Dam need 6hours more. To reach my quota, my “emergency contingency plan” !

Back to the topic, Coldplay totally swept away all critics who said that they were ‘one-trick ponies’ with only the ability to produce the classic hits such as “Yellow”, “The Scientist” and perhaps ” Clocks”. They certainly have done really well with this new album, and must be applauded for their bravery to break out of their comfort zone. I really love the ambience on this album; credit goes out especially to Jonny Buckland for his innovative usage of effects and Will Champion for some strings arrangement.

Chris Martins’ voice, most importantly of all, has taken a drastic change. Not for better nor for worse, but just different. It certainly is a refreshing change amid the sea of U2-wannabes.

Just look at the sheer audacity some drivers have. Sometimes you feel that you just can’t trust them at all. I know I can’t.

I recently obtained an old, dirty Trek 850 which actually had a pretty strong frame with reliable if dirty components. After sending the bike down to Bikelink ( Yishun ), I received a significantly cleaner and more presentable ride. This certainly increased my confidence in my bike and so would help me in taking baby steps back into riding!
